Education Scholarships
Education scholarships are offered to the poorest families in the remote communities.
Based on the districts requirements the scholarships include contributions to school fees, uniforms, shoes, school bags, English dictionaries, books and stationery. Some areas require higher levels of support depending on economic and locational circumstances including annual travel bursaries.
Remedial Literacy: Reading, Writing & Numeracy
In response to Covid school closures, Remedial Literacy, Writing and Numeracy are vital for Grades 1 -3. The program is delivered as ‘student centric’, project-based learning, using technology and recently renovated libraries as learning spaces. ‘Learn to Read’ and ‘Read to Learn’ are story-reading programs also delivered through the libraries.
English as a foreign language - efl
The BCF curriculum, English as a Foreign Language is delivered in government schools into communities via a ‘student centric’ curriculum. Our classes emphasise spoken and listening English which are important skills for future employment in Bali. The BCF curriculum is enhanced with videos and presented to the students via large smart TVs or projectors. This exciting use of technology provides students with previously undreamed-of learning opportunities, supported by qualified BCF teachers.

S.T.E.M. - science, technology, engineering & math
STEM provides remote Elementary school children access to computer learning and has a robust problem-solving emphasis. The Bali Children Foundation curriculum considers environmentally friendly sustainable solutions to many community challenges, including access to water, water safety, sustainable energy, waste management, forestry, and soil conservation.

tEACHER TRAINING
BCF employs and train teachers via a unique training program enabling teachers to develop skills and become better teacher practitioners. Curriculums are tailored depending on location, cultural sensitivities and issues pertinent to that specific location.
LIBRARY UPGRADES
While Indonesians are excellent oral storytellers, they rarely read for leisure. Lack of reading skills affects children's access to learning. As students move into High School and Tertiary learning, the issue becomes acute. Whether seeking information from books or the internet, strong reading skills are vital life skills. BCF uses the newly renovated library spaces to deliver story reading to the younger children and leisure reading resources for the older Elementary school grades. We hope this early emphasis on fun reading will set students up for lifelong learning.
SCHOOL UPGRADES
School building upgrades play a very important role in the delivery of our programs. Some examples of building upgrades we provide include installations of waste management solutions, creating safe and hygienic play areas, providing classroom furnishings and electrical upgrades and assisting with poor drinking water supplies, just to name a few. However the most important impact is the installation of the multi-media equipment into the classrooms. This equipment is used to seamlessly deliver our curriculum to the children.

LEMBONGAN COMMUNITY GARDEN
The Lembongan Recycle Community Garden is underway with upgraded soil, garden design, planting and staff training. This work is in co-operation with Siki Permaculture Bali.
Once the trial garden is established and proved effective, permaculture gardens will be offered to the families of Lembongan and Ceningan.
The science behind both the Recycle Compost and Permaculture Garden projects will form part of S.T.E.M. learning for Lembongan's Elementary school children in 2022. We look forward to seeing the 'children’s garden' which they’ll create at the Lembongan Recycle Community Garden.
POSYANDU
In conjunction with Kartika Soekarno Foundation, Bali Children Foundation revitalised Posyandus (Mother and Infant Health Services) in the villages of Songan, Bangli. In this program, we invest in the first thousand days of a child’s life. These are the most important days of their lives and have a direct impact on their growth.

Central to our educational programs is the rigorous monitoring, analysis and evaluation of the aid we deliver. Evaluation and feedback allows to us respond and to make key decisions about improvement and change, ensuring we continue to make a sustainable and positive impact on the young lives we help.
Serving the rural community, Bali Children Foundation is continually faced with a number of challenges.
Agriculture is the way of life for many of the families BCF serve, and many parents rely on their children to help them to work the land. More often than not this comes at the expense of the children’s education. With a high level of illiteracy amongst the poorer communities and a low appreciation for the benefits of education, school drop out numbers are high. Whilst we work diligently to maintain impressively low numbers in the schools we partner with, we never lose sight of the fact that it is the solid relationships and commitments from the parents that will ultimately keep the children in school for the full course of their education.
